Gifts to School of Nursing contribute to...
The School of Nursing's offerings prepare graduates to become leaders at every level of their careers and facilitate positive changes to healthcare as it relates to government, law, and patient care. Here is how your gift to the School of Nursing Academic Excellence Fund helps develop the next generation of quality healthcare and patient advocacy:
AACN Student Policy Summit
- The School of Nursing (SON) supported three students so that they could attend the AACN Student Policy Summit in Washington, DC. Among them was a Jonas Scholar. Accompanied by other Connecticut students and faculty, they visited Capitol Hill to meet with Senate and House of Representatives staff to discuss nursing education and policy. The participating students were Chloe Doehler (BSN), Carrie Guttman (DNP), and Alexandra Ford (DNP, BSN, MSN at QU).
National Student Nurses Association
- SON sends students to attend the annual National Student Nurses Association (NSNA) convention. This year, the convention will be held in Seattle, WA, around the time of this campaign. The event features sessions on nursing, leadership, and licensure preparation with students from across the country. Additionally, three SON students will serve as delegates and participate in the governance arm of NSNA.
Community Engagement Distinction
- The School of Nursing has also introduced a new community engagement distinction for students across programs, with nearly 15 students joining the initiative. This program is an outreach of our donor-funded community engagement efforts led by Pina Violano. The students involved are making significant contributions to the community.
Your gift to the School of Nursing Academic Excellence Fund supports students attending these experiential learning opportunities by covering their travel expenses to and from conferences and other locations. Students worry less about paying for these experiences and can focus on what they are learning, which enhances what they bring to their careers post-Quinnipiac. Experiential learning gives students the ability to apply what they are learning in the classroom to hands-on situations, enhancing their understanding of their studies and producing quality nurses.
